The DPO Monthly is a subscription-based service giving you the chance to explore a variety of topics every month. These deep-dive sessions will be practical and entertaining explorations of key issues, enabling you to learn more about specific topics and support your continuing professional development, without listening to lengthy recitations of the law.

Who is it for?

The sessions are aimed at those working in the areas of data protection, information governance, compliance, legal, and other related specialisms. I am based in the UK so that will be reflected in the sessions, however, practitioners in the EU/EEA or with an interest in the GDPR will be well served.

What you get

You will get access to two sessions each month: one will be about a core data protection issue and the other will be a purely practical session.

Core data protection issues will include personal data, consent, and the notorious soft opt-in. Practical sessions will focus on scenarios such as using drones, monitoring staff at home, and students / customers recording your staff.

Videos will be view-only and there will also be an audio only version.

If you sign up for one video, you can choose which one you want each month; if you don’t choose, you get the core topic one. If you sign up for both, you get… both. It’s not complicated.

Every three months, there will be a bonus session. Subscribers will be able to influence what it is by voting on the options.

How much is it?

One video: £20 + VAT a month (£200 + VAT if you book a year in advance).

Two videos: £40 + VAT a month (£400 + VAT if you book a year in advance).

If you join the wait list before the end of August 31st, you’ll pay £20 or £40 including VAT if you sign up.

There is no minimum length of monthly subscription, but the annual subscription doesn’t come with a refund.

You must agree not to share the videos without permission, but approved sharing won’t be expensive. Discounts are also available for multiple sign-ups, so talk to your boss / budget holder.

Videos will also be available for individual purchase outside the subscription, but they will be standard price (between £80 – £100 + VAT each).

If you sign up later, you will be able to catch up on what you’ve missed for a price. New subscribers will get discounted access to previous sessions on an ad-hoc or all-in basis.

The service starts on October 1st. I’m asking people to sign up here to gauge interest and to help finalise what’s on offer. If you give me your name and email address, you’ll get an invite as soon the formal joining process is open. Before that, you’ll get a couple of questionnaires that will allow you influence what videos I provide and what bonus content subscribers will receive.

If you put your name down here by 31st August, you will pay £20 or £40 *including VAT* per month, depending on the level you choose. This will cover the first 6 months of the service. If you choose the annual subscription, you get an additional 10% off if you sign up before the end of August.

Signing up now isn’t a firm commitment. I’ll ask you to help putting the finishing touches to the service and in return you’ll get a discount for getting in early. But if you decide not to join, you’re free not to.
